2017 VW Golf Alltrack, S trim levels don’t come with any garage door opener controls. Usually you’d find these built into the driver’s sun visor or even built into the rearview mirror. Yes, you can retrofit an auto-dimming rearview mirror with the buttons built in but what fun is that 🙂 Instead, we started with a key fob type garage door opener appropriate for our model of garage door opener. Took it apart, soldered some wires to a pushbutton and back to the circuit board of the opener. Added some 3D printing of a mount to hold the button in place and designed a CNC program to simply cut out a rectangle from the interior overhead trim piece…..a button is born!
